Rugby’s First Million Pound Players

This article was first published in September 2017, amidst the rumours of Charles Piutau´s move to Bristol. Though it was originally rumoured that he would be earning £1 million a year at the Bears, the club have since refuted this. It is not known how much the player is going to be on, but it was certainly an offer with which his former club, Ulster, could not compete. There’s no doubting that – if they do not already exist – the Premiership’s first ‘million pound players’ are too far away.
Ben Cisneros asks what the future holds for rugby transfers and if Charles Piutau is the sport’s Neymar.
